Why is my water discolored?

Wayne Public Works Authority wants you to know that we appreciate your phone calls informing us of any water problems you may be experiencing. There are times that we know what is going on with the water, and other times, we do not. So please feel free to call us if you are experiencing any problems.

There are times that your water will be discolored due to general maintenance of the lines and hydrants. Once a week the water could be discolored or have low pressure due to the Fire Department pumping the trucks as preventative maintenance (the only time they will not pump the trucks is during inclement weather). At other times, the Fire Department flows hydrants to inspect them and make sure they are functioning properly. There are also times when the Water Department must flush the lines, which can also cause discoloration.

We thank you for your understanding and patience as we perform regular maintenance in order to keep the water and town safe.
